As the Director of Sustainability at Temple University, Kathleen leads the Office of Sustainability in implementing the university's Climate Action Plan. She is responsible for developing partnerships within the university to advance sustainability on campus in the areas of transportation, energy conservation, energy efficiency, recycling, waste minimization and water conservation. She also works with faculty, staff and students to foster a sustainable culture on campus via curricular and co-curricular activities.
Prior to joining the Office of Sustainability, Kathleen worked for five years in the private sector in a planning, architecture and landscape architecture firm as a municipal planner, developing sustainable master plan elements and affordable housing plans. She received a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from American University and also earned a Masters in City and Regional Planning and a Masters in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania. Kathleen’s favorite parts of working in Temple’s Office of Sustainability are working with energized student leaders, nagging members of Temple’s Bike Commuter Team to log their miles, getting cheap rehabbed computer equipment from the Computer Recycling Center, and boring coworkers with stories of her rescue cat.
