Land a Green Job!

Find Job Keyboard

The green economy has grown tremendously in past years, with major job growth in the renewable energy sector. If you have a passion for environmental issues, here are some ways you can make that interest into a career.

Build on your skills.

What are you good at and what do you have experience with? Sustainability has grown so much that you can find it in nearly every industry, meaning you don't have to change your entire life plan. In college for marketing? Continue working on your degree and professional skills while also keeping involved in local sustainability causes. Come graduation, you have the perfect skillset to land a marketing job for an environmentally-focused organization.

If you're looking for ways to gain more sustainable skills on campus, try joining SEA (students for environmental action club) or TCG (Temple Community Garden). While you're at it, earn your undergraduate certificate in sustainability.

Browse green job sites.

There are actual job posting websites dedicated to sustainable job opportunities! Try looking at Idealist, Grist Job Board, Orion Grassroots Jobsource, GreenJobSearch, EcoEmploy, and Green Dream Jobs. Many large corporations also have a department dedicated to sustainable action.

Get social!

Start following and interacting with relevant social accounts to keep up with green news and hear about possible green job opportunities. On Twitter, follow @GreenPhillyBlog,  @GreenBizWorld@SBNPhila, @BeautifulPHL and hashtags #greenjobs and #PHLjobs. Those are just to name a few!

We also try to tweet out about any job/internship opportunities that we hear about on our Twitter page @TempleEcoOwls.

Network.

The more involved you are in local sustainability, the more connections you will make that can eventually lead to a job recommendation. Join clubs on campus, volunteer at local non-profits and attend events that are happening all the time around the city! By becoming a member of organizations like Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia, you open the door to a multitude of opportunities.

Be sure to check out our calendar for upcoming events and follow our social media for updates! @TempleEcoOwls and Temple University Office of Sustainability Facebook page.

Good luck!
